Penile induration and curvature—medically referred to as Induratio penis plastica or Peyronie’s disease—is a localized condition of the penis in which an inflammatory focus develops in the tunica albuginea of the corpora cavernosa. In the initial stage, the condition most commonly manifests as mild tenderness or pain at the site of the developing plaque. This inflammatory plaque gradually hardens, and calcifications may accumulate in the surrounding area. Without timely treatment, the disease may progress to penile curvature, other structural deformities, erectile dysfunction, or impaired sexual intercourse. It is crucial to begin therapy as early as possible—the earlier the disease is detected, the higher the likelihood of a successful outcome. In most cases, its progression can be halted, thereby preventing further damage. At the first signs—pain or a palpable induration—do not hesitate and visit us: early intervention is the most effective prevention of deformities and sexual dysfunction.
Advanced forms of the disease with significant deformities may require surgical intervention, which carries an increased risk of postoperative erectile dysfunction due to potential damage to the penile vessels or nerves. At our clinic, we approach treatment comprehensively—combining focused shockwave therapy (ESWT) with intralesional injections of anti-inflammatory agents and/or enzymes that affect the plaque. In more severe cases with pronounced anatomical deformities, we also proceed with surgical correction.
