Vaginal Prolapse
A gentle solution for a long-term problem.
About the procedure
PROLAPLASE is a modern, non-invasive laser method designed for the therapy of pelvic organ prolapse, including cystocele, rectocele, and vaginal prolapse.
Pelvic organ prolapse affects up to half of women who have undergone vaginal childbirth. Traditionally, only two options were available: vaginal pessaries as mechanical support or surgical intervention—both associated with certain risks and limitations. PROLAPLASE® offers a modern non-invasive alternative based on Er:YAG technology and the principle of the gentle, non-ablative photothermal effect of the Fotona SMOOTH mode. The result is the tightening of the vaginal walls and strengthening of the vaginal canal. Efficacy, safety, and ease of performance have been confirmed by clinical studies.
The procedure utilizes precisely targeted application of laser radiation with a wavelength of 2940 nm (Er:YAG), which stimulates the production of new collagen and supports remodeling processes in the tissue. The result is the narrowing and tightening of the vaginal walls without any tissue removal. The strengthening and reduction of the vaginal canal gradually lead to the regression of the prolapse—allowing the vagina to regain its natural supportive function. The method is suitable for mild to moderate prolapse.
The PROLAPLASE protocol includes 6 treatments at intervals of 4 to 8 weeks:
- Step 1: Circular (360°) treatment of the entire vaginal canal
- Step 2: Angular treatment of the prolapsed part of the vaginal wall (anterior wall for cystocele, posterior for rectocele)
- Step 3: Treatment of the vaginal vestibule and the affected section of the vaginal wall
Benefits of the Procedure
Studies by Dr. Ogrinc and Dr. Sencar have demonstrated that this laser method represents an effective, safe, and non-invasive way to treat pelvic organ prolapse:
- A statistically significant reduction in the degree of prolapse occurred after the very first treatment
- The patients’ condition continued to improve during subsequent sessions
- Patients reported minimal discomfort during the procedure (average VAS score of 0.4)
- The satisfaction rate was high—a median of 4 out of 5 on the rating scale
- No adverse side effects were recorded
The physical strain on the body is minimal compared to surgical solutions. The procedure requires no special preoperative preparation or postoperative rest—patients can return to their daily lives immediately after treatment. It is a bloodless, painless procedure without the need for incisions, sutures, or general anesthesia. For the first treatment, it is necessary to provide a current gynecological examination, no older than 6 months.
Procedures are performed by our certified physicians with specialization and experience in laser medicine, who have completed professional training at the Laser and Health Academy under the supervision of leading specialists. Fotona laser systems hold CE certification, and the ProlapLase® treatment protocol itself is CE certified for the therapy of pelvic organ prolapse.
