Pearly penile papules are small benign lesions that most commonly appear on the edge of the glans at the junction with the foreskin. Although these are harmless and non-inflammatory formations, they can cause concern in men—many mistake them for signs of a sexually transmitted infection. The aesthetically disturbing nature of these growths is the most common reason why men seek professional help.

The only truly effective method of removing them is treatment with an erbium laser, which we routinely use at our facility. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis; before treatment, we apply a numbing gel to the penis, so the entire process is painless. The length of the session depends on the extent of involvement—typically lasting 15 to 30 minutes. Two treatments are usually required to achieve optimal results.
