Hydrocele puncture is one of the options for managing this condition. The principle involves draining the accumulated fluid using a needle inserted directly into the hydrocele sac. Under normal circumstances, the fluid is amber-colored; a change to red may be caused by mixing with blood, which sometimes occurs during the procedure. By its nature, puncture is a temporary measure: in most cases, the sac refills within a few weeks to months.
Despite the temporary nature of the result, it is a quick and simple procedure for the patient. Punctures are typically repeated until a surgical hydrocele repair is performed, which represents the definitive solution. For patients in whom surgery is not possible for various reasons, we repeat the punctures regularly, as they significantly ease their daily lives.
If you are looking for a quick non-surgical solution for a period of several weeks to months, puncture is a suitable choice. The procedure is painless, takes only a few minutes, and the patient goes home immediately after completion. Before the first procedure, we always perform an ultrasonographic examination of the scrotal contents.
