About the procedure

Prostatitis is among the common and chronic conditions that can significantly burden a man’s mental well-being and overall quality of life. Patients suffering from chronic prostatitis or chronic pelvic pain syndrome typically consult multiple specialists—urologists, physiotherapists, and sometimes even alternative practitioners—in an effort to find relief from persistent symptoms.

A modern solution for the chronic form of this condition is shockwave therapy (ESWT—Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy), which is applied to the prostate area and trigger points in the pelvic floor. This is an outpatient treatment consisting of four sessions. After completing them, patients typically experience significant relief from pain.

The principle of the ESWT method lies in the targeted application of extracorporeal shockwaves to calcified deposits in the prostate, which may be a source of bacterial burden, as well as to the musculofascial structures of the pelvic floor. Shockwaves promote relaxation of tense tissue and improve microcirculation in the affected area. They also mechanically disrupt calcifications, which are subsequently broken down by leukocytes and gradually eliminated by the body’s own immune system.

In cases of acute bacterial prostatitis, antibiotic treatment must be completed first. The acute form typically presents with fever, burning during urination, and lower abdominal pain. Chronic prostatitis and pelvic pain syndrome, on the other hand, manifest as mild to intense pain in the lower abdomen or perineum, which may be accompanied by urinary disorders and sexual dysfunction. Scientifically validated results of shockwave therapy for these diagnoses are available in medical literature—more information can be found via the link directly on the website.
