About the procedure
General or Local Anesthesia — How Do We Decide?
Frenulotomy (cutting of the short frenulum of the penis) and frenuloplasty (plastic correction of the short frenulum) are among the most frequently performed penile surgeries in both children and adult men. For children aged 3 and adolescents up to 18 years, the procedure is performed exclusively under general anesthesia, which ensures a calm and pain-free experience. For adult patients, outpatient local anesthesia is sufficient. However, if an adult patient prefers general anesthesia, this option is also available.
What Does Short Frenulum Surgery Address?
In children, frenulotomy and frenuloplasty are indicated for an anatomically short frenulum that restricts foreskin retraction and can adversely affect the natural development of the penis.
In adult men, the indications are identical — a short frenulum preventing foreskin retraction and normal penile function — and additionally, the surgery is used as a therapeutic step for premature ejaculation. Frenulotomy represents a standard first-line approach in the treatment of premature ejaculation (ejaculatio praecox). It provides complete relief for some patients. If the result is insufficient, therapy is extended to include pharmacological treatment — preparations based on antidepressants or local anesthetics applied directly to the penis.
How Does It Proceed?
Following an initial consultation at our facility, we will jointly agree on the date of the surgery. Subsequently, we will request your pediatrician to issue a pediatric pre-operative examination report.
Who Performs the Procedure?
The procedure is performed by MUDr. Michal Polák, an experienced pediatric urologist, and MUDr. Milan Gajdoš, MPH, a urologist with over 30 years of professional experience. Anesthesia is provided by an experienced pediatric anesthesiologist.
Our private facility guarantees the highest quality surgical materials and strict adherence to hygienic standards. The presence of one or both parents during the stay is a matter of course. Unlike a hospital environment, you come into contact with a minimal number of people — discretion is our priority. We guarantee an individual and empathetic approach to every patient and their family, continuous availability of a doctor during the stay, and the option of telephone or personal consultation 24 hours a day — until full recovery.
If you are preparing for this surgery, please first schedule a consultation before the surgery under general anesthesia.
