About the procedure
Why Is Circumcision for Boys Performed Under General Anesthesia?
General anesthesia ensures complete pain relief and maximum comfort for the child throughout the entire procedure. This procedure under local anesthesia is not suitable for children. We operate on children from 2 to 18 years of age. Adults can also be operated on under general anesthesia, although circumcision under local anesthesia is more common in adults.
What Are the Benefits of Circumcision?
- Proper Penile Development in Boys. Circumcision allows unimpeded development of the penile shaft and glans.
- The Penis Does Not Produce Odor After Circumcision. There are no skin folds on the penis that would harbor odor-producing bacteria, sebum, and urine residue.
- Reduced Risk of Cervical Cancer in Partners of Circumcised Men. Removal of the foreskin reduces the environment suitable for the survival of bacteria, viruses (e.g., HPV), and fungi, which decreases the risk of cervical cancer in partners of circumcised men.
How Does the Procedure Work?
- Method of Performance — Following pediatric (or internal medicine for adults) and anesthesiological preoperative examination, we perform the procedure in an operating room with high hygienic standards. We use delicate instruments designed for children and self-absorbable suture material—removal of stitches is therefore not necessary. The operation takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes. The presence of a parent at the facility is standard and welcome.
- Stay at the Center and Anesthesia — Anesthesia is administered by an experienced pediatric anesthesiologist with many years of practice. After the operation, the child goes home accompanied by a parent on the same day.
About the procedure
Before the Operation:
Before the operation, you will undergo an examination at our facility, where we will discuss all details and schedule the operation date. Prior to the procedure, it is necessary to complete a pediatric preoperative examination, usually with your child’s pediatrician. We provide anesthesiological examination directly at our day surgery center. If pubic hair is already developed, we recommend shaving the scrotum and area around the penis 2-3 days before the procedure. The child arrives at our center on the day of the operation in the morning hours, fasting, and accompanied by a parent.
After the Operation:
Recovery typically takes 7 to 14 days at home, depending on the child’s age and healing progress. Parents will be thoroughly instructed by the physician on wound care—treatment is simple and undemanding.
What Type of Circumcision Do We Perform?
By agreement with parents or the patient, we perform partial or complete circumcision. The choice of appropriate method depends on the condition and quality of the foreskin, presence of diseases, anatomical conditions, as well as parental wishes—we assess each case individually to ensure the highest quality result and the most gentle procedure.
